Tommy Joyce, PGA Head Golf Professional

Tommy began working at Hidden Valley in January of 1997.   Before coming to Hidden Valley, he worked in Myrtle Beach, SC for a golf management company as the Director of Revenue and Acquisitions   He was led to Hidden Valley in pursuit of a more traditional golf professional job and a desire to be more involved with people.

He received his degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Resort Management while attending on a full golf scholarship.   After college, Tommy competed professionally for two and half years as a member of the PING World Tour Program.  Over that time he played on the TC Jordan Tour (now Hooter’s Tour) and qualified for several individual Nike Tour events (now Nationwide Tour).

Tommy was elected to PGA Membership in 1993.  Since being elected to membership, he has continually served the PGA and gives back to the game on a full time basis.   He was elected to the Carolinas PGA Board of Directors and served as President of the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Professional Association while in Myrtle Beach.  Presently he is serving on the Board of Directors for the Middle Atlantic PGA, Founder / Director of the Roanoke Valley Junior Golf Association, and Tournament Chairman of the Roanoke Valley Hall of Fame Tournaments.

Tommy was awarded the 2000 Middle Atlantic PGA Junior Golf Leader award and recognized nationally in  as one of the top junior leaders in America.  He has a strong commitment in being a positive influence in the lives of his junior golfers.  In 2004 and 2006, Tommy was recognized by US Kids Golf as one of the top 50 Kids Teachers in America.  His main career goal is to create strong relationships with his juniors, his membership and his staff.  In 2006, the Middle Atlantic PGA presented Tommy with the Bill Strausbaugh Award.  The Strausbaugh Award is given annually to a PGA Professional who by his day-to-day efforts has made significant contributions through mentoring other PGA Professionals. Since becoming a member of the PGA in 1993 he has helped 11 assistant become Head Professionals or Directors of Golf.   Developing strong relationships is the key to will allow him to offer superior service plus the opportunity to touch their lives the same way his PGA Professional, Wayne Haley, touched his.

Dave Updike

Dave has worked at Hidden Valley since 1993, and is now a regular on the weekday mornings outside services staff.  Dave retired from Norfolk Southern in 1993 but continues to be very active.  Besides working at Hidden Valley, he works the sidelines at the Virginia Tech football games.  If he is not working, you can see him on the course telling his golf buddies he is a 15 handicap, when he is actually a 9. An interesting fact about Dave is he was once a national weightlifting champion.

Lee Hall

Lee is a retired Lieutenant from the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office. Lee came aboard at the end of 2006 summer. He carries a great sense of pride with his work and is a joy to be around. Lee is looking forward to continuing his services with Hidden Valley.  One thing you may not know about Lee is that he has 13 grandchildren whom he loves to spend as much time with as possible.
